No one should ever have to die like George Floyd did last week.
After looking at the video countless times of Floyd there on the asphalt pavement with that Minneapolis Police officer’s knee on his neck…
There’re no two ways about it.
He was murdered.
Since then, a LOT has happened and a LOT MORE needs to happen.
But the REAL question is…
In times like these, what do you do?
How can you affect change?
How can you help your brother or sister that is hurting and in pain?
How can you, one person, make a difference?
The answer?
You do what you are called to do.
When I look at my own life, my own platform, and I ask myself this question right now…
The same answer comes up for me that came up when my good friend Richard asked me to start organizing opposition to certain political parties and what they stand for and to help create awareness of the need for reforms and change…
I told my friend this…
I wish you well in your political fights but right now, more than ever, I am am just called to shine a light on LOVE.
I am just called to love deeper, be bolder than ever about loving deeper and show to as many people as possible as an example of how they can do the same (if they are open to it).
What’s important here is…
My way of creating change and making a difference in the world may not be your way.
You have to find YOUR way.
The way that calls to you, speaks to you and makes sense to you at this place in time as the best contribution you can make to create a better world.
Your way might be to just go on the internet and get as informed as possible about the real issues we’re facing right now or…
You may be called to organize, to rally, to protest, to march, or to sit across from police officers or political leaders and share what life is like for you.
As a 57 year old white man, when I search myself for a specific, tangible thing I can do in response to make a difference in the world around race relations…
My one thing I’ve decided I can do (and will do)…
I can make eye contact with every single person I meet on my path in life and acknowledge them, connect with them and let them them know in some small way that I see them as a brother or a sister in this journey called life.
I think in times like these…
Every single person is going to have to search their hearts and find some love to give.
Every single person is going to have to open up their minds and find some new way of seeing the world and the people in it.
Every single person is being called to take a stand for what’s right.
My way is to show up and love people.
That is going to look different in every moment but that is what I can (and will) do.
As for you…
You are going to have to search your inner wisdom and find your own truth, your own answer and your own way.
And that answer is going to change every day and from moment to moment.
